Many People are confused about what travel insurance
actually is. There are three different insurance products that people
often term "travel insurance" These three different products are highlighted
below.
Travel Insurance:
Many times Trip cancellation insurance is often
paired with medical insurance, (both of these insurance types are explained
below) in which case the combination is referred to as Travel Insurance.
If you are a frequent traveler, buy an annual travel insurance policy that will
cover you wherever you go.
Trip Cancellation Insurance: This type of insurance
comes into play if you have to cancel
or interrupt your trip due to a covered reason (a "covered reason could
include illness, tour operator bankruptcy, or terrorism but each policy is
different). Trip cancellation insurance will reimburse you for
nonrefundable deposits. Most companies selling these policies require that
you book your trip cancellation insurance policy within seven days of making
your initial trip deposit.
International Medical Insurance:
This type of coverage is important for people who
plan to be away from their native country for an extended period of time. The
medical coverage portion of travel insurance is very important, since very
few
health insurance plans provide coverage beyond their country of issue, and
the majority of HMOs and some
PPOs don't even provide benefits beyond
their local network.
